It took me 5 years but I finally finished Freddie’s prehistoric park quilt, that both he and I designed when he was a little boy. He wanted so many of his favourite creatures on it from woolly mammoths to ammonites that we decided to make the quilt in panels depicting various different time periods.

The T-Rex after it has been coloured and cut out is ready to be ironed on to the panel using bondaweb.
The one above is a portion from the cretaceous period. The creatures have been drawn in a permanent pen and then colour added using Derwent Inktense pencils, with a water and fabric medium wash to make the colours pop out. The creatures are then hand stitched onto the quilt top and wadding before the backing is put on.
The different time periods are: Quaternary, Cretaceous, Jurassic seas, Jurassic and finally Carboniferous.

My favorite panel is definately the carboniferous one where I think I put the most detail into the machine applique and the tree shaping.
The completed quilt now sits with pride at the bottom of Freddie’s bed to keep him warm and cosy in the winter.
