The first step is to make an outline drawing of the bird. Then trace the different shapes you need adding a little bit extra where the fabric will be tucked under. I used my printer to scan and flip the image so that I could trace it onto Bondaweb. Now find the fabrics you want to use, I like a slight pattern on the fabrics rather than plain as it adds texture.

Cut small scraps of each colour, iron on the Bondaweb and cut each piece out before removing the backing paper. I use the original outline picture to aid positioning and a tiny bit of glue to hold the pieces in place. Build up the picture and then carefully lift onto backing fabric and iron the pieces down. You are now reading for a bit of free motion sewing. Lovely!
